Maurice Beane received a BFA degree in Communication Arts & Design in 1984 at Virginia Commonwealth University, Richmond, Virginia. He works primarily with steel, aluminum, glass and stone to create architecturally inspired furniture, sculpture and design elements for residential and commercial spaces. Maurice has garnered numerous awards and honors at the Visual Arts Center’s Craft and Design shows in the late 80s and 90s and the Distinguished Service Award in 2011. In 1992 President Eugene Trani of Virginia Commonwealth University awarded him the Alumni Star for the School of the Arts.
Over a 30 year career he has been commissioned to create sculptures and architectural works for Erni Electronics, Media General, Inc., The Visual Arts Center of Richmond and VCU-MCV Hospitals. Many of his designs have appeared in national and international publications, among them SOUTHERN ACCENTS, HOUSE AND GARDEN, ARCHITECTURAL DIGEST, HOUSE BEAUTIFUL and METROPOLITAN HOME. Beane’s work is included in many important private and corporate collections, among them The Sydney and Frances Lewis Collection, Markel Corporation, Altria, Dominion Energy and The Artery Inc.
His works have been exhibited nationally at numerous art galleries and institutions, including the Peninsula Fine Arts Center, Newport News, Virginia, Visual Arts Center of Richmond and Primavera Gallery, New York.
